With the second half of 2018 now in full swing, we compiled a list of the major highlights of the first six months of the year and share how Aboitiz is doing in pursuit of our Group Purpose to drive change for a better world. While not comprehensive, this covers much of the important achievements across all Aboitiz SBUs, including our CSR and social enterprise initiatives, which are a clear indicator of the values we uphold as an organization.

January

• Hedcor’s 70-MW Bakun AC Hydro, in Alilem, Ilocos Sur received a recommendation for Asset Management certification or ISO 55001 from TÜV-SÜD, an internationally accredited certification body
• Therma Visayas baseload power plant in Toledo City, Cebu officially clocked its 20 million man-hours without a single Lost Time Injury (LTI) achievement on Jan. 3, 2018
• CitySavings signed a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with the ROPALI Group to acquire 100% of the common shares of Philippine Resources Savings Bank (PR Savings)
• Wounded-in-action soldiers took the comprehensive bakery management training  provided by Pilmico under the Noble Bakers program, while Aboitiz Foundation donated heavy-duty baking equipment for their Noble Bakers’ Bakery located in Fort Magsaysay in Palayan, Nueva Ecija

February

• The Aboitiz Leaders Conference 2018 gathered 190 of the Group’s top leaders to discuss the Aboitiz culture and what it means to lead a culture that performs
• The Aboitiz Group Talent Optimization team launched #AlwaysLearning, the self-driven learning platform for Aboitiz team members, promoting a self-driven, highly blended, and continuous learning culture through a cutting-edge learning tool
• Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc., joined by six other companies of the NAIA Consortium, filed an unsolicited proposal to the Department of Transportation to upgrade Ninoy Aquino International Airport into a world-class facility and a regional air transport hub
• Hedcor’s 69-MW Manolo Fortich hydropower facilities signed partnerships to contract about 45MW of its total rated capacity to eight electric cooperatives in Mindanao beginning 2018
• VECO received its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification, effective January 30, 2018 after a two-stage audit by leading testing service TÜV Rheinland Philippines
• UnionBank and Visa partnered for the ‘Visa B2B Connect’ platform that makes cross-border business-to-business transactions more seamless and easier for corporate clients
• UnionBank synchronized with the Social Security System’s e-Collection System, enabling real-time posting of contribution payments
• CitySavings and Union Properties signed a Share Purchase Agreement with AEV to acquire 51% of common shares of PETNET
• PETNET earned its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification following audits conducted by Certification International Philippines in December 2017
• Aboitiz Construction and First Balfour signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore potential project collaborations in the Visayas
• The Aboitiz Group’s P.A.G.K.A.I.N. Para Sa Mga Bayani Livelihood Program  donated 10 kits of egg-laying machines to the 10th Infantry Division based in Mawab, Compostela Valley

March

• The Aboitiz Group announced leadership restructuring to better carry out goals and strategies, particularly for AEV and AP, and identified key areas of change, underpinning a prudent vision to transform Aboitiz into a truly sustainable enterprise
• The Aboitiz Group formally launched Weather Solutions, a weather social enterprise providing a platform-based suite of services that can help customers interpret weather data to reduce risk exposure, as well as develop solutions to harness business potential
• AEV A-Clubs was established to promote work-life balance and cultivate rewarding experiences while helping team members network with one another
• Therma South, Inc. celebrated 2 million safe man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) after the successful completion of TSI’s planned maintenance outage
• Davao Light obtained its recommendation for ISO 9001:2015 certification from TÜV Rheinland after a successful two-stage audit
• Pilmico signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Dept. of Trade and Industry to be the agency’s Industry Partner in the implementation of the Go Negosyo Act and champion backyard farming and sustainable livelihood
• Pilmico partnered with the Mantibugao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers Cooperative in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon for an inclusive sourcing project for corn, a primary ingredient in producing animal feeds products
• Aligned with the Earth Hour 2018 activities, the first episode of “An Hour of R2R” debuted, featuring a panel of “green experts” who shared knowledge on resource efficiency and waste management
• Davao Light released 76 pawikan hatchlings on the beach of Aboitiz Cleanergy Park, the first batch for 2018

April

• The 15th-floor a.lab (Aboitiz Lab) was opened at the Taguig Corporate Center, a new facility designed to be a showcase for innovation that helps promote collaboration and interaction in an agile work environment
• AboitizPower entered the rooftop solar space through AboitizPower Distributed Energy, Inc. (APX), a new business unit aimed at further expanding the company’s already significant renewable energy portfolio under its Cleanergy brand
• VECO inaugurated its upgraded Banilad Substation, adding 33 MVA capacity to the eastern cluster of the VECO franchise, doubling the capacity of the facility
• UnionBank held its first Tech-Up Expo and highlighted the various initiatives that demonstrate how digital banking is an integral element in advancing business and communities
• Republic Cement formalized its partnership with Taytay sa Kauswagan, a microfinance institution with a strong presence in Mindanao, to provide affordable housing for low-income Filipino families all over the country
• The Aboitiz Cleanergy Park team saved a critically endangered Hawksbill turtle, named Agdao, in cooperation with both Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region XI (DENR-XI) and UP Los Baños School of Veterinary Medicine
• Weather Solutions partnered with the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), enabling the Filipino cable television network to utilize specialized weather data from the Aboitiz Group’s social enterprise for its daily weather reports

• Therma Power Visayas received its Certificate of Effectivity (COE) from the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) to initiate the former’s purchase of the Naga Power Plant Complex located in Naga City, Cebu
• Shangri-La Mactan signed on to be powered by Cleanergy, AboitizPower’s brand for clean and renewable energy, to support the resort’s environmental sustainability initiatives
• AboitizPower Distribution Utilities held a three-day Leadership Cascade to learn and practice Collaboration, Cooperation, and Innovation
• UnionBank launched its Project i2i blockchain initiative that aims to bring millions of unbanked Filipinos to the financial system through a platform designed to speed-up and simplifies the process of using blockchain technology
• US Green Building Council granted LEED Gold Certification to UnionBank’s Mayon branch in Quezon City, the first and by far only LEED v4 certified project in the Philippines
• Pilmico and Aboitiz Foundation broke ground on a new state-of-the-art research and training complex in Central Mindanao University, aiming to help efforts to elevate livestock raising and management in the region
• AboitizLand and Spartan Executives partnered to hold the Spartan Run 2018, one of the fastest growing endurance races across the globe, at the Foressa Trails
• Department of Agrarian Reform conducted on-site inspection and investigation (OSII) of the 6.8-hectare proposed site of Apo Agua’s water treatment facility for the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project
• Aboitiz Construction was awarded the design and construction work for the expansion of facilities for Austal Philippines, an integral partner for Australia’s Austal Group in building revolutionary high-speed ships for governments, navies, ferry, and offshore operators around the world
• Weather Solutions signed on to work with Philippine Red Cross, helping to overcome challenges in disaster risk and response through the use of highly accurate weather data

• President Rodrigo R. Duterte inaugurated Pagbilao Energy Corporation’s newly completed 420-megawatt Pagbilao Unit 3 power project
• Nueva Ecija II Electric Cooperative signed a 33-MW power supply deal with AboitizPower for the supply of clean and renewable energy to 10 municipalities in the province
• UnionBank introduced GlobalLinker, a free and innovative platform that helps micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) grow online with tools for efficient business management and network expansion
• AboitizLand launched Anila, which in Sanskrit means wind, and highlighted the enclave’s close proximity to the ocean where wind is felt most
• Aboitiz Foundation partnered with the Presidential Security Group to help provide sustainable livelihood and income opportunities to members of the PSG Enlisted Personnel Ladies Club
• Weather Solutions closed a deal with SN Aboitiz Power, providing the large hydro company access readily available weather data that will be helpful towards sound decision making for its operations
• WeatherPhilippines Foundation signed a memorandum of agreement with Knowledge Channel Foundation towards promoting disaster resilience and instilling the #WeatherWiser mindset in today’s young generation
